Champagne and Sparkling wine
Sparkling wine is often confused with Champagne, but there is a difference between the two. Any wine that undergoes a second fermentation is carbonated and thus fizzy (sparkling). Of these wines, only the ones produced in the French region of Champagne can legally be called champagnes. However, there are some rogue American sparkling wines that are known as champagnes because the US never signed the universal wine agreement with regard to labelling.
